Design and Features:
The k95 RGB platinum is a mechanical keyboard that comes with plenty of features that make it among the best gaming keyboards today. With its 8MB dedicated memory that has the capability to store six different profiles, with different set of macro keys. The LED lights on this keyboard are its best feature as they come with 16.8 million colours. This keyboard is travel-friendly because of its classy aluminium surface which includes a wrist rest.
Compared to the previous k90 keyboard this model is slimmed down. K90 had 18 macro keys on its left but k95 Platinum RGB offers six Macro keys. This keyboard suggests that the time of Macro keys is coming to an end.
The keycaps are quite basic and the font on them isn't all that great but the K95 RGB platinum comes with swappable WASD keycaps along with the surrounding keys that are textured in a gray finish which matches the macro keys.
There are Cherry MX speed switches come in handy when playing twitchy games, it require only 1.2mm for actuation and have a linear red switch feel to it. When you press these keys it results if rapid and responsive actuation, really useful for fast-paced games. Unlike the previous editions of Corsair gaming keyboards, this one uses a Blockier and bold typeface.
Most gaming keyboards these days come with the worst on-screen interface and poor inventory management screen. K95 RGB platinum, like all of Corsair's recent Gaming Keyboards comes with a Corsair Utility Engine also known as CUE. It has one of the most easy to use and user-friendly setup.
From the drop down menu you could preset lighting configurations from wide range, you could customize the lighting, speed, color combination and much more. You could even assign configurations to each user profile easily. There have been instances where k95 RGB platinum forgets the settings but you could always easily open CUE and get things back to normal again.
K95 platinum also allows you to set up a long-string macro by recording each keypress, also lets you store custom sounds to each Macro Press, if you have a favorite song then you could just use that on one of the macro keys and get yourself pumped up during gaming. The best feature of k95 platinum is no doubt it's RGB lighting, and a lot of RGB fanatics share their favorite color combinations online.
Most peripheral manufacturers like Logitech, SteelSeries, Razer. these days use proprietary switches, mostly on their RGB keyboards, whereas Corsair is still the only company to use Cherry Switches.
The keyboard comes with endless combination of lights, each key features its own customizable multi-colour LED, it also comes with a lightbar with 19 varieties of customizable RGB zone lines, at the top of the keyboard.
Compared to Logitech's Romer-G switches where the LED is at the centre of each key, Cherry's LED lights are on top of each key. Hence the lettering on the keys are offset at the top of each key. The LED lights are surrounded by translucent plastic, which makes it colourful and bright and lights up the k95 RGB platinum facing edge. The lights are programmable which means if you want a swirling rainbow, or a ripple of light emergencing from hitting any key then you can do just that, including setting up a light show of your own choice. K95 RGB Platinum is a fully disco-lit keyboard.
What we think?
The Corsair k85 RGB platinum is a perfectly good mechanical gaming keyboard which includes every feature that a gamer would appreciate, from its perfect LED lighting, easy to use software and quick, responsive switches.
Compared to Razer BlackWidow Chroma, which is the second best gaming keyboard of our choice and at slightly similar price, Corsair k95 RGB platinum takes the cake with its brilliant features and colourful LED lights. Unlike Razer BlackWidow Chroma, the Corsair k95 RGB platinum can be used to everyday use and offers a bigger keypad, and fast, responsive macro keys.
The only downside is that this keyboard is a bit expensive ranging at $200, now $160 at Amazon. There are always cheaper alternatives as well but if you are a PC gamer who wants high and efficient gaming performance then you should definitely go for Corsair k95 RGB platinum. After all, it is Corsair’s best quality product to date, and the perfect investment a gamer could make. It would most certainly be worth every single penny.
